Project 1 - (Click to enlarge images)

This is project 68 fastback. We purchased it in July of 2008 as a father son project. We got it pretty cheap off of e-bay. Yes we know it is a basket case, but it is a much sought after fastback. My son is going to have to earn the money to purchase parts for the car. In fact he has already purchased new rocker panels, torque boxes, and rear frame rails. We have some advantage over the typical home do it yourself person. I have been a toolmaker for 25 years and have restored a few mustangs. We will be able to do almost all of the work ourselves, so we will not have to pay a shop for labor to repair it. We will farm out some of the work, like final body and paint. But we also have connections there with a body and paint technician in our extended family.

My goal is to teach my son several things such as, about cars in general, project and budget management, that money is hard to earn and easy to spend, and most importantly just to spend time together and have something my son can have to keep after I have left this earth.

Our first step is to remove as many of the parts off of the car as we can. Most have been removed in this picture, The next step is to make a jig for the car to sit on. That is nearly done. That way when we cut out the old bad parts and install new ones, the new parts should be in the right place.
